Hilton Head Photographer | Meet Krista of Island Belle Photo
A Hilton Head photographer who believes the best photos feel natural
Hello, I’m Krista — the photographer behind Island Belle Photo.
For more than fifteen years, I’ve been documenting meaningful moments for families, couples, and weddings on Hilton Head Island.
My approach to photography is simple: create images that feel natural, relaxed, and true to the people in them. I guide when it’s helpful, step back when moments unfold naturally, and keep the experience easy so you can focus on the people you love.
Whether I’m photographing a family session, wedding, engagement, maternity portrait, or reunion on Hilton Head, the goal is always the same: images that reflect real connection and the beauty of the moment as it happens.
Today Island Belle Photo photographs families, weddings, engagements, maternity sessions, and reunions throughout Hilton Head Island and the surrounding Lowcountry.
Rooted on Hilton Head Island

My family has called Hilton Head Island home for three generations, and today I’m proud to work as a photographer here, documenting weddings, families, engagements, and maternity sessions across the island.
Hilton Head has a way of inviting people to slow down, reconnect, and celebrate the moments that matter. It’s part of what makes the island such a meaningful place for family vacations, weddings, engagements, and milestone celebrations on the coast.
I feel incredibly lucky to photograph both the families who live here and the travelers who come to Hilton Head to mark important chapters of their lives.
Because I grew up here, I understand how the island photographs throughout the seasons — from the soft sunrise light on the beaches to the golden sunsets over the marsh.

My path to photography

My journey into photography began 17 years ago while working as the creative director at a Grammy-winning record label.
In that role I developed concepts, locations, and wardrobe direction for album artwork and artist photo shoots. I also had the opportunity to collaborate with incredibly talented photographers and watch firsthand how they used light, movement, and emotion to tell a story.
One of them encouraged me to pick up a camera myself.
Since then I’ve photographed weddings, families, and events from South Carolina to San Francisco, but Hilton Head Island has been home and is the place where Island Belle Photo continues to grow.
Many of the sessions I photograph take place across the island’s most beautiful settings, including Sea Pines, Harbour Town, Folly Field Beach, Burkes Beach, Fish Haul Beach, and Palmetto Dunes.
A calm, confident photography experience
Photography sessions that feel EASY
One of the things clients say most often after a session is: “That was so easy.” That’s exactly the experience I aim to create.
Whether I'm photographing a Hilton Head family session, an engagement, a maternity portrait, or a wedding, the goal is always the same: a relaxed experience where you can simply be present with the people you care about.
You don’t need to know how to pose or worry about everyone being perfect.
I guide when it’s helpful, keep the pace relaxed but moving, and leave room for real interactions to unfold. The result is photography that feels effortless and images that capture genuine moments rather than forced ones.
A few personal details: The loves of my life
My Turkish Delight

Our home — which we lovingly call The Honey House — is one of my favorite creative spaces.
It’s the kind of place that always feels alive: something growing in the garden, something cooking in the kitchen, foster kids running through the backyard, or a table set for friends.
I love the endless opportunities it gives me to create and entertain.
More than anything, The Honey House is a place for gathering, giving, and loving — messy, joyful, and full of life.

Our Menagerie

In 2015 I was single, so I set a goal to go on 50 dates.
As I approached the halfway point, Date No. 22 appeared — a Turkish man with a charming accent, refreshing honesty, and a kindness that caught me off guard.
He quickly filled my calendar with Dates 23–50 and I fell in love with him on a sunset hike. He proposed the following year, and the rest, as they say, is history.
I feel incredibly lucky to have found him.

The Art Studio

Our home is joyfully run by a small but enthusiastic crew.
Annie, Bertie, and Charlie — our three goldendoodles — bring the chaos in the best possible way. They love racing each other on the beach, chasing squirrels in the backyard, and curling up for nighttime snuggles on the couch.
And then there’s Hemingway, the sweetest cat who thinks he’s a dog and enjoys wrestling with Bertie and Charlie.
Life with these four is never boring.

The Honey House

Long before photography, art was my creative refuge.
Drawing and painting have always been a way for me to slow down and reconnect with creativity.
Over time that love grew into another branch of my work: Island Belle Studio, where I create paintings and art prints inspired by the landscapes and stories of the South Carolina coastal Lowcountry.
You can explore that work at IslandBelleStudio.com.
